Environmental Policy
Hillscape has achieved the Green Dragon Level 2 Environmental Standard
Hillscape provides self-guided walking holiday packages based at Blaen-y-ddôl, a guest house in rural north Ceredigion.
Hillscape can accommodate six guests, and walking holiday packages include accommodation, all meals, and use of printed guides to a selection of 40 mostly-circular walking routes. Blaen-y-ddôl is a
combined business and domestic premise. It is fully double-glazed, and otherwise insulated as well as its largely 19th-century construction allows; it is fitted with solar water heating. Organic
produce is grown in the garden.
The main environmental impacts of Hillscape are:
- Transport and use of food and manufactured goods
- Production of solid waste
- Consumption of oil, firewood and electricity in the house, and consequent greenhouse gas emissions
- Consumption of water from an adjacent spring and stream, and discharge of waste water via a septic tank
- From business use of one vehicle
- Use of paints and cleaning materials
- As a result of guests' travel to, from and during their holidays.
To protect the environment, Hillscape aims to:
- Comply with all relevant environmental legislation
- Use home-grown and locally-sourced produce and goods where possible
- Minimise production of solid waste, by composting and recycling
- Minimise energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions
- Minimise use of cleaning materials
- Prevent pollution by observing good working practices
- Provide guests with realistic car-free options throughout their holidays.
Hillscape will strive to improve its environmental performance by:
- Monitoring energy consumption and waste production
- Annually considering ways in which performance might be improved, consistent with the interests of the business.
This Environmental Policy will be updated annually and will be made available to guests, suppliers and members of the public.
NOTICE:
In some minor respects, VisitWales quality standards conflict with this Environmental Policy. In such cases, VisitWales allows an Environmental Policy to take precedence. We are confident that our operation of this policy does not significantly affect the quality of our holidays.
